Born and raised in Cairo but now based in the UK, Sir Magdi will speak specifically on the renewed focus on science and technology within Egypt where he is a member of the President’s Supreme Council for Science and Technology. This Council, established as part of the much heralded Egyptian Decade of Science (2007-2017), is charged with pinpointing priorities for STI in Egypt, at a time where Egypt aspires to use its STI initiatives to promote scientific excellence and collaboration both amongst Arab and Islamic countries, but also across Africa. Three years into this decade of science, Sir Magdi will reflect on the success and challenges facing Egypt and the place and potential of international collaboration within this context.
