Professor Hassan will discuss the rapid rise of new scientific powers and the lessons they can offer other traditionally ‘developing’ countries. He will also explore the implications of the rapid pace of change in global science for these countries, and suggest how they can most effectively take part in the global science system to address local manifestations of global problems, and to build up the strength, prestige and influence of scientists and scientific organisations in their countries.
