The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty has established an unprecedented international monitoring system consisting of hundreds of seismic and other types of monitoring stations. Yet there are far more seismic stations and networks in the world outside the IMS than in it, and many more independent geophysicists and seismologists than ones who work for national or international organizations. Dr. Willemann will discuss the contribution that these independent sources of information and analysis can contribute to monitoring the CTBT and future treaties.
