This paper examines policy solutions such as coastal setback lines, managed retreat, zoning, building codes, and easements. They have resurfaced as potent forces to combat coastal hazards coupled with climate change. I will assess their compatibilities with vegetation and engineering approaches. Are there infrastructure and engineering solutions or conservation measures that enable affected stakeholders to compromise on setback lines or coastal retreat policies? In addition, I will also discuss the role of disaster policies especially pertaining to flood insurance and inundation-related disaster aid in coastal adaptation. Do they enhance or hamper the implementation of setback and managed retreat policies? These policies on land use, vegetation and engineering regulations, and post-disaster recovery actions coupled with societal responses reveal the outcome of coastal adaptation.
