Call for Proposals: AAAS 2020 Annual Meeting

This call is for both scientific sessions (i.e. symposia and flash talks) and career workshops for the 2020 AAAS Annual Meeting, which will be held in Seattle, Washington. Please click on the appropriate link for submission instructions.

Scientific Sessions - Deadline Reached
There are two session types:

• 90-Minute Symposium Format: This is the standard symposium format. Symposia should be focused on topics and projects with broad appeal and relevance. A panel composed of 3 speakers gives presentations (~20 minutes each), followed by a ~30 minute Q&A period with the audience. The session organizer may choose to have a discussant and a moderator.
  
• 10-Minute Flash Talk Format: Flash talks offer individuals the opportunity to have the stage to themselves for ten minutes (one speaker only per submission). Flash talks can be on any novel and inspiring topic relevant to those attending the AAAS meeting. The range of possible topics is broad, but talks themselves should be focused on a big idea that can be presented clearly and concisely in ten minutes. Early-career scientists are encouraged to submit, if they are experienced speakers and experts on their proposed topic. A video clip of a polished, well-organized prior talk is required in the proposal. Talks should be dynamic and engaging, oriented toward a more public audience, and showcase good public communication skills – including the use of high-quality visuals, a focused message, and plain language. The Program Committee will group the accepted flash talks into sessions by topic or cross-cutting theme, with short Q&As following each talk.

Career Workshops - Deadline Reached
Career workshops are aimed at both individuals seeking careers in science and engineering and professionals looking to sharpen or supplement their skills. These workshops are instructional or informational in nature and are markedly different from a scientific session. Workshops may have up to 3 presenters and will be 90 minutes in length.
