Using Workforce Data to Guide Career Development

Sunday, February 19, 2017: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM
Room 208 (Hynes Convention Center)
Many Ph.D. students and postdocs are unaware of the range of careers options available to them. Moreover, once they have identified a career goal, many are uncertain as to the skills they must master to successfully secure the desired position. This workshop presents a process to help with career exploration using workforce data. Participants will learn about top positions and skills requested by hiring managers for biomedical Ph.D.s in various career tracks. In small groups, participants will use a real-life example of an individual development plan as the basis for discussing ways to acquire skills both inside and outside the laboratory.
