Telling Scientific Success Stories with the Golden Goose Award

Friday, February 17, 2017: 1:30 PM-1:45 PM
Room 308 (Hynes Convention Center)
In 2012, a group of nonprofits led by AAAS and the Association of American Universities took up the charge from Representative Jim Cooper of Tennessee to create the Golden Goose Awards to celebrate the societal impact of silly or obscure sounding federally funded scientific research. Come hear some of the weird and wonderful tales of how scientists followed their curiosity, encountered serendipity, and overcame adversity on their way to discoveries and breakthroughs with major impacts on society—from our health and wellbeing to the ways we communicate to the ways we educate our children—and about how the Award has impacted the public and policy conversations over its first five years.
