What is the potential for “big data” to supplement survey methods? I will discuss the substantial potential and limitations of big data to understand/capture/predict human behaviors and attitudes. Big data are typically synergistic with traditional survey data, where fusion of big data with survey data and methods developed to analyze survey data offer the potential to offer a much more accurate and finely granular picture than either type of data alone. Applications ranging from economics to politics will be discussed.
