This talk will provide an overview of public engagement with science (PES), including motivations for scientists to do PES activities, examples of social and scientific topics that have been addressed through PES, methods for PES, and tools for evaluating PES programs. The talk will begin to address a number of questions that will flow throughout the session discussion, such as what characterizes PES programming, who is doing PES, and what best practices and frameworks exist for advancing PES activities?
