In sports science, we are trying to estimate the competitiveness by the measurement of physical fitness elements. In physical fitness factor required for the competition, physique (form) and physical fitness (function) are considered an important factor which influences the technical and mental strength. The present study was carried out in order to examine the role of body composition necessary to competitiveness. The purpose of this study was measured twice body composition before and after the training period in order to obtain the basic data. Twenty one male cyclists (mean age, 20.0 years) and six female cyclists (mean age, 19.8 years) were examined for body composition. Body composition was measured using the DLW method. It was compared by measuring the body composition in March and July. The results were as follows : 1) in female, fat mass of legs and the whole body ware significantly reduced in July compared with March; 2) other hand, muscle mass was significantly increased in the trunkIn male, fat mass of legs, trunk and whole body ware significantly reduced in July compared with March. Other hand, muscle mass was significantly increased in the whole body and leg. Our results, rough tendency for changes in body composition has been confirmed. Further aspect of physical fitness in the competition is also important, it says that there is a need to continue to consider the various elements in the future.
