From organoids to organs-on-a-chip, bioengineers are increasingly able to design and create functional living systems for specific purposes. And the emergence of complex connections and interactions between constituent cells is essential for their intended behavior. As engineers, we can seek to guide such interactions toward a desired goal. In this presentation, we will describe several of the control methodologies that can be used to direct emergence, and present several examples.
