The Pursuit of Sustainability Through Chemistry

Saturday, February 18, 2017: 3:00 PM-4:30 PM
Room 306 (Hynes Convention Center)
Richard Helling, The Dow Chemical Company, Midland, MI
The concept of sustainability is simple – defining metrics and making decisions based on them is much more complex. Choices require understanding the almost inevitable trade-offs and making value judgments. For a corporation, it isn’t enough to fully embrace the principles of sustainable chemistry – it also needs tools and metrics that are relevant to the company, businesses, and projects. Examples drawn from the chemical industry will be used to illustrate the importance, success and challenges with elements of sustainable chemistry and the pursuit of sustainability.
