IPCC assessment has been the primary way in which the broadly defined international climate community has reviewed its progress and communicated results about the state of knowledge of climate change to national governments and the general public. As the scientific foundation for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, this assessment played an important role in the development of the 2015 Paris Agreement and in the evolution of domestic policy. IPCC assessments have been particularly noteworthy because of their end-to-end nature.
