Validity and Reliability of Fingerprint Evidence

With funding from the Arnold Foundation, AAAS has undertaken an analysis of the scientific basis for latent fingerprint analysis. The project has reviewed the scientific underpinnings of current forensic practices. AAAS is currently preparing a report that will discuss strengths and weaknesses of current practices, identify areas in need of additional scientific support, recommend a research agenda for the field, and recommend improvements in laboratory methods and reporting practices. In this presentation, the Chair of the expert panel assembled by AAAS to conduct this review will discuss the scope of the project and preview major findings.
