Eyes in the Forest: Citizen Scientists Contribute to Managing Forests Worldwide

An overview will be given of civic engagement in research programs such as EDRR (Early Detection Rapid Response), a global effort to slow the spread of invasive species, a major threat to forests; STEW-MAPS for establishing stewardship footprint of citizen science organizations mapped for regions and large cities; large datasets for modeling energy, carbon sequestration, climate, and disasters; studies on wildland urban interface, mapping trees in Europe, wildlife monitoring, tropical tree surveys, and standardized Forest Inventory Growth Plot for tracking growth, biodiversity and health of trees.
