Data science is a team sport, as exemplified by the White House’s 2015 Precision Medicine Initiative—a bold, $215 million investment in research to revolutionize health care and treat disease. It pioneers a model of patient-powered research that promises to provide clinicians with new tools, knowledge, and therapies to customize treatments. Citizens have new data- and technology-based access to scientific information and medical records, giving patients new hope for unsolved medical challenges.
