Trans-border airsheds, aquifers and river flows guarantee that poor air quality and degraded water supplies are inherently international issues in the Middle East.  Mitigation of regional shortages of clean water and persistent air pollution often requires multi-national collaborations among nations with historically poor relations.  Examples of coordinated scientific analyses of shared environmental problems and their potential to establish better international relations will be presented.
