Marshall Ballroom East (Marriott Wardman Park)
Melvin Greer, Lockheed Martin Corp., Bethesda, MD
Although traditional research methods have resulted in innumerable scientific discoveries, many of today’s research questions are not effectively addressed within the context of a single scientific discipline. Convergence the merging of previously distinct disciplines to create new disciplines is emerging as a new model for scientific research and innovation. Melvin Greer, Senior Fellow Lockheed Martin is exploring how convergence is created, what it has delivered to date, the advantages of convergence-driven research, the challenges to it, and the domains to which it can be applied in the near-term.
