We will describe a programmatic component of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) collaboration structure--the Faculty and Student Teams (FAST) program--that enables underrepresented minority scientists and their students to join the SDSS collaboration as full members, benefiting not only from data access but also importantly peer mentors who work to involve the FAST scientists into the collaboration network, project collaboration opportunities, and paper authorship opportunities. We also describe a "diversity toolkit" that includes protocols and rubrics for increasing diversity in program admissions, mentoring, and research training.
