We provide an overview of the SDSS collaboration structure, emphasizing the organizational elements that (a) promote and reward collaborative work, (b) provide fair access to data products and equal opportunity for leadership to all participants, and (c) advance early career scientists within the collaboration. We share key policy documents that formalize, e.g., collaboration rules for authorship, grievance procedures, and representation within the collaboration governance. We also provide an example of engaging an external site visit group to monitor practice with respect to gender equity and other organizational best practices. The presenter serves as chair of the SDSS Collaboration Council.
