Japan is a mid-size country with 800,000 researchers. Japan Science and Technology Agency, a governmental funding agency, is now running a public engagement platform, Science Agora, gathering scientists, business people, policymakers, media and general public. I will address the S&T policy in Japan, the effect of the nuclear accident in 2011 and today’s perceptions of the scientist to the public engagements. We also seek co-design of the action toward the common issues with other regions.
