Working with Congress: Communicating in Difficult Fiscal and Political Times

Sunday, 15 February 2015: 1:00 PM-2:00 PM
Room 212 (San Jose Convention Center)
The political agenda continues to be dominated by the fiscal deficit, an issue with significant ramifications to the research community. Both the White House and the new U.S. Congress will continue to battle over the federal deficit and the impact of cuts due to the sequestration that came into play in 2013. Scientists and engineers need to be more engaged and learn how to be effective communicators in their interactions with lawmakers. This workshop will provide scientists with an opportunity to role-play a meeting with a member of Congress and congressional staff on a current topic before Congress.
