Expanding Your Professional Marketability through Science Outreach

Sunday, 15 February 2015: 3:30 PM-4:30 PM
Room 212 (San Jose Convention Center)
“Science outreach” indicates the goal of raising awareness of science-related topics to an audience of non-scientists. Despite being an umbrella term, science outreach is becoming a more ubiquitous component of science institutional infrastructure, making it an increasingly viable career option for scientists and engineers. Furthermore, engaging in science outreach activities while in training can help develop a variety of skills -- leadership, communication, and public speaking -- useful regardless of career choice. Through presentations, discussions, and interactive demonstrations, we will provide examples of science outreach activities, how to launch science outreach efforts, and how to exploit these experiences for career development.
