Valuing Reef and Mangrove Services and Their Integration in Coastal Defense Decisions

We examine how information on natural coastal protection services has been used to inform decision-making by governments, non-governmental organizations and businesses. We describe payments for ecosystem services initiatives that have helped to ensure sustainability. Finally, we provide advice on how ecosystem services could be better integrated into Systems of National Accounts, which currently only consider built capital not natural capital.
