Data Security: Challenges in Medical Research

Sunday, 15 February 2015: 1:30 PM-4:30 PM
Room LL21D (San Jose Convention Center)

This presentation addresses an important enabling question for data-driven cure and prevention research:  How to assure integrity and confidentially for patient and trial participant information crucial to medical investigations?  What protective protocols are available to accomplish this; how will they stand up over time as incursion strategies evolve into more creative strikes?  We will discuss necessary security measures and best practices for sealing, gating and tracking medical data shared among researchers, healthcare providers and patients.  Looking ahead, what attack and defense innovations loom as medical data systems become more widely accessible and increasingly critical to finding cures for age-related diseases?
