A supernova can happen at any time, and neutrinos from a core collapse will precede the photon signal by hours. This talk will describe what we hope to learn from future observations of neutrinos from nearby supernovae by using the SuperNova Early Warning System (SNEWS), developed to optimize global sensitivity to supernova neutrino physics.
