Research that combines computing and big data can answer fundamental questions about behavior. One general theme is harnessing online activity traces to reason about emotional wellbeing. In this presentation, the focus is on extracting social media "signatures" of depression by leveraging affective, behavioral, social, and linguistic expression of individuals. This research has the potential to inform the design of early-warning systems and interventions for improved wellness.
