Ever increasing data availability is providing new ways to do science. This is important for research purposes, and this session will outline some of the key areas of development in the big data landscape that are relevant to research, innovation and entrepreneurship. It will set the scene for the remaining talks, which will explore how these developments are informing, or have the potential to inform, public policy decisions.
