Information-Centric Networking has been offered as the next big thing to either augment or replace TCP/IP as the ‘narrow waist’ of the Internet. In this talk David Oran explains some of the key aspects of the ICN approach and why it might, or might not, represent a disruptive force in the evolution of the Internet. We’ll examine some of the attractions and difficulties, and speculate in what application domains ICN has the best chance to displace today’s IP-based Internet applications.
