Hypoxia has garnered attention with dramatic die offs and devastated fisheries. Ocean acidification has not yet caused the same headline-grabbing effects, but is often mooted as a grave threat to marine ecosystems worldwide. Chemically, the two phenomena are linked, with local hypoxia enhancing acidification. Biologically, they exacerbate each otherís effects. The connection, potentially, provides opportunities for management at local scales.
