Assessment of Broader Impacts in the Earth Sciences

The Earth Sciences Division at NSF is undertaking an internal effort involving portfolio analysis, inreach, and outreach to better understand the broader impacts cultures and values among its programs. The portfolio analysis component includes text-mining thousands of proposals and final reports. This new information will help inform program officers and the research community. The implications of this data-driven approach can extend beyond Earth Sciences into other disciplines.
