Earth satellites have enhanced the use of proxy environmental data for studies and predictions of infectious disease transmission. Results have been mixed, with success a function of understanding transmission drivers and the relative role of various risk factors. For diseases such as dengue and Chagas, where characteristics of the vector, host and home environment translate into highly localized transmission, complementary observations on vector and host movements provide essential insights.
