Getting Started in Social Media

Friday, 14 February 2014: 2:15 PM-3:15 PM
Grand Ballroom F (Hyatt Regency Chicago)
As scientists, many of us want to better communicate with the public. One of the best ways to reach a wide and diverse audience of scientists in different fields, journalists, and lay people is to use social media. But how do you get started? Is it really as easy as starting a blog, twitter, or tumblr? How do you start making social media a worthwhile pursuit? This workshop will bring together three big names in science and social media, to give you hands-on help in setting up social media accounts and making the internet a place that you want to be. Bring your laptops, bring your smartphones, and prepare to blog, tweet, and tumbl!
