Solar modules that involve large, interconnected collections of small, ultrathin high performance multi-junction photovoltaic cells offer unique options in engineering design. This talk describes materials growth strategies, assembly techniques, cell architectures and strategies for light capture that collectively provide world record energy conversion efficiencies at the module level. Activities in advanced commercial deployment will be highlighted.
