How did the Higgs Boson, a theoretical sub-atomic particle, gain rock star status? This session will explain how the “search for the Higgs” was embedded in popular culture, as a way of inspiring more young people to study science. The session will include specific examples of relevance to other disciplines of the benefits – and risks – of adopting a cooperative and inclusive approach, and the joys and pitfalls of explaining Big Science to children, parents, the public, and Members of Parliament.
