Ortwin Renn , University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany
Professor Renn will review application of risk-based approaches by regulators in the US and EU and highlight emerging problems and possible solutions. Prominent examples will be the regulation of chemical, occupational, and food-related risks. The main thesis will be that major differences between the USA and Europe are due to procedural and legal traditions rather than differences in principle (such as the precautionary approach).
