The Value to a Sponsor of a Bottom-Up Approach to Demonstrate the Value of Research

The Medical Research Council (MRC) sponsors basic and applied research of high scientific quality to improve human health. It funds intra-mural research in its own institutes and units, and in universities and teaching hospitals. The need to track the progress, productivity and quality of this research, led MRC to develop a system for capturing details of the outputs from research; demand from other sponsors has ensured it is now available to them as a commercial tool.
