This presentation addresses food security issues affected by climate constraints, land degradation, water limitation, large scale disasters (droughts and heat waves), weather-related crop/pasture losses. It will be shown that, although the Green revolution is still contributing to crop production increase, the current climate has already started to limit major agricultural food supply in the main producing areas and highly populated regions of the developing countries. We will illustrate how to use the new operational space systems for an early detection of droughts, heat waves, water & thermal stress and their impacts on crop losses well in advance of harvest.
