In the current context of a global metabolic health crisis provoked by an obesity epidemic, we compared the gut bacterial richness of obese and non-obese Danish volunteers. We identified two groups with different metabolic characteristics. Only a few bacterial species are sufficient to distinguish between high and low bacterial richness: such classification may enable to predict people’s risks to develop certain metabolic health problems.
