Saturday, February 16, 2013: 11:45 AM-12:45 PM
Room 209 (Hynes Convention Center)
The Internet has transformed daily life, connecting people and communities in unprecedented ways. Despite the immense potential benefits, many scientists are hesitant to use new media technologies in their professional life. This workshop will begin by explaining the importance of new media to scientists of all backgrounds, including exciting examples of how these platforms are transforming research and outreach. Participants will be introduced briefly to the new media landscape, including the who, what, and why of the major platforms. Finally, participants will learn how to begin implementing a new media strategy, including how to set up accounts on the biggest networking platforms and some do’s and don'ts of new media.
