Navigating LGBT Issues in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

This session will include a roundtable discussion on being open as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) on campus and in the scientific and technical workplace. The relative state of LGBT equality will be discussed. Perspectives from the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientist and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP) “Out to Innovate 2012” LGBT STEM Summit workshops will be presented, including ways to improve campus and employment/professional workplace environment through “safe space” programs, employee resource groups, and visibility. NOGLSTP programming to provide role models of successful LGBT scientific and technical professionals, fostering networking and mentoring, will be shared. NOGLSTP is an AAAS affiliate.
