Environmental scientists from many disciplines have a particular role to play informing public policy. Scientists trained in skepticism and rigorous analysis have important skills with applicability to public policy. This presentation will provide examples of the role marine science and scientists, and other fields, can play informing local and state policy makers -- where key decisions are routinely made -- about the potential impacts of public policy on the larger environment.
