Beauty or Beast? Evaluation of Science in an Age of Accountability

While burdensome to institutions, well designed and appropriate measurement of collaborative interaction and outcomes can reveal broad impacts of scientific work. A careful balance of federal evaluation requirements with tailored formative and summative evidence for research groups can result in useful evaluations. This presentation addresses challenges (data and design) and new methodological developments in the evaluation of federally-funded multi-year distributed research groups.
