Without the knowledge of the range of careers available and the educational pathways to these careers, many talented students from low income and/or minority backgrounds will not pursue STEM careers. Internship programs for talented high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds can transform lives. By working closely with a mentor on a research project, while also receiving college counseling, these students see college as an attainable goal and ultimately pursue careers in science.
