Into the Belly of the Beast: Antarctic Whaling in the 20th Century

Burnett would explore and summarize 1-2 of his more relevant chapters from his recently published "The Sounding of Whales," which examines the history of cetology in the 20th century. His talk would connect the history of Antarctic whaling with the knowledge gained from this industry, much of which hunted blue whales nearly to extinction. Burnett would also highlight the obvious ties locally, in Boston, with the history of Yankee whaling
