Eric Betzig , Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Farm Research Campus, Ashburn, VA
Dr. Betzig is a physicist at the HHMI research campus Janelia Farm. He is devoted to tackling major limitations in current microscopy approaches that restrict temporal and spatial resolution in monitoring cell dynamics. He developed a variant of plane illumination microscopy that uses scanned Bessel beams to image living cells with 3D isotropic resolution at hundreds of image frames per second. This novel microscope will transform our ability to monitor cell dynamics both at high temporal and spatial resolution.
