A Commission appointed by American Chemical Society President Bassam Shakhashiri has made recommendations for changes in graduate education in the chemical sciences. This talk will report on the recommendations made by the "working groups" of the commission. These groups considered the structure of departments in the chemical sciences, employment issues for graduates students, financial support mechanisms for graduate education, the current and future profile of chemistry graduate students, and the expectations graduate students have from their educational experience.
