Knocking on Heaven's Door: How Physics and Scientific Thinking Illuminate the Universe

Sunday, February 17, 2013
Room 208 (Hynes Convention Center)
Lisa Randall , Harvard University, Cambridge, MA
Randall will discuss communicating physics to the public in best selling books, as well as articles, media, and art. One illustrative case is the libretto she wrote for an opera in which she reimagined her extradimensional theories of the universe in musical form (it premiered at the Pompidou Center). Focussing on particle physics and cosmology, and connections between theoretical developments and observations, she will argue for the importance of understanding and employing a scientific way of thinking for policy and the general public.
