With the discovery of quantum mechanics came the possibility of using
atoms as building blocks of ultra-precise clocks. With our emerging
capability of manipulating cold atoms with exquisite control  we are
not only pushing  time-frequency standards, but also demonstrating
that  an atomic clock can be used as one of the most precise probes of
the quantum world and of complex many-body phenomena.
