We report on a project where we examined the determinants that help women persist in networks and what is the role of social networks in the persistence of women in the area of gender and sustainabiltiy. Specifically, we studied the networks and social media presence of three decades of women associated with the World Congress on Sustainable Development (CSD) that meets every ten years (1992, 2002, 2012). Based on our findings we are implementing and evaluating a social recommender system that will seek to enhance cross-mentoring of grassroots women with academics, policy leaders and students in the globally-scaled knowledge network for sustainability.
